Concert at Batavia Armory is a hit

Free concert at Batavia Armory draws warm reception

Violin soloist Mable Lecrone was the highlight of Batavia’s summer concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra August 10 in Auxier Hall in the Batavia Armory this year.

Ms. Lecrone won the 2017 Encore-Clermont Concerto Competition and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and School for Creative and Performing Arts 2018 Concerto Competition. She performed with the Cincinnati (Clermont) Philharmonic Orchestra in the first indoor concert in the summer concert series in Batavia. The Clermont Philharmonic performed in 2014 as part of the Batavia Bicentennial Celebration, and the orchestra has returned each summer since then.

Mayor John Thebout greeted a full house for the performance. The Clermont County Marine Veteran Honor Guard opened the event with the posting of the colors, and Conductor Jaime Morales-Matos led the orchestra in a program titled "Fantasy and Dance."

Previous concerts have been on Courthouse Square. Mayor John Thebout said the village hopes to sponsor more events indoors and on the square.  The Batavia town hall moved in November, and the Armory Town Hall has a large auditorium, Auxier Hall, that can accommodate the orchestra and audience in air conditioned comfort.
