The Batavia Village Council is accepting letters of interest to fill a vacancy on the six-member council for an unexpired term ending December 31, 2021. Interested candidates must be registered voters and must have lived in the Village for a year.
Councilman Brian Vickers submitted his resignation on January 12. Mr. Vickers joined the Village Council in May 2017, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Bill Raper, who moved out of the village. Mr. Vickers then won a four-year term in the November 2017 election.
Village Council has 30 days from the date of the vacancy to appoint a replacement member. The next regular meeting of council is at 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 8. If Village Council does not appoint a replacement, then the Mayor shall appoint the replacement.
The new member will be one of four members of the panel whose seats expire this year and will be up for election in November. The others are Kathleen Turner, Robert Handra, and Jason Gipson.
Applicants should submit letters of interest to the Village of Batavia Office at 65 N. Second St., Batavia, Ohio 45103, attention John Waite, Fiscal Officer. The deadline for receipt of letters of interest is 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2.
